To mark National Careers Week, our Key Worker Aimee discusses her role within our Employment team and what motivates her.
Hi, My name is Aimee, I work in the Employment Team here at Changing Lives. I have been here for just over 2 years. The employment team relies on funding to deliver our service and I’m currently working on a project called Gateshead Go work, Live. This project is funded by Gateshead Council & the UKSPF.
The aim of the project is to support people who are economically inactive and living in the Gateshead area to move closer or into employment in a very holistic & participant centred way. We gather a lot of information about the participant, we use this to reduce or eradicate any barriers they may have. These can be a lack of confidence, social exclusion, digital exclusion and mental and/or physical health. Once the participant feels ready, we can begin supporting with job searching, applications and interview techniques. We also aim to make the work sustainable for the participant by helping with in work support if needed.
I have always worked in the customer services industry and enjoyed helping people. When I saw the job for Changing Lives I thought this would really suit me because of my passion for helping others. I liked the values of Changing Lives and wanted to be part of that. I also have lived experience which I felt would help me build a rapport with the people we support.
I love my job and I feel very lucky. In my opinion Changing Lives is a great place to work, they don’t only offer support to people accessing the services but as a colleague I feel I am very supported in my role.
Although a lot of us work on separate projects we are a tight knit team, we are always there for each other to offer any help or support needed.
